2004-09-21 [ilanyus]: not really complete :) have to describe diphthongs pronunciation :) will do asap
2004-09-21 [ilanyus]: offcourse I would always like to have some feedback on these lessons :) (although I want to be a teacher in real life as well I don't have the skills yet... :) ) (btw, I'm not going to be a languages teacher in real life :P but physics and chemistry)
2004-09-21 [LonelyTylenol]: YAY! THe page is up! Now I'll have to start reading it.
2004-09-21 [LonelyTylenol]: Number 30 isn't a Y. It's another kind of S. I've done my share of writing in Sindarin, but using the English tongue for it. the S you have as a Y is called silme nuquerna (meaning silme (The original S) reversed).
2004-09-21 [LonelyTylenol]: Number 7 is also used for J, though, there probably aren't any sindarin words with a J. Sorry. Like I said, I've studied the tengwar and tehtar a bit. I like to write notes to friends with them. I'm just lacking the training in the tongues and a few other things too...
2004-09-21 [LonelyTylenol]: I figured it out. I think number 23 is the Y. Sorry. I'm sure you know this better than me. I just have a book right next to me that I learned from (But have been told is a kind of... incomplete source) titled "The Languages of Tolkien's Middle Earth" and that's where I've learned everything I know...
2004-09-21 [LonelyTylenol]: And according to my book, number 35 is also a Y. Sorry. I'm REALLY going to stop now.
2004-09-22 [ilanyus]: heheh, ok I'll start looking over it... can be that I made some stupid faults :P wrote it to quick probably :P but you're right as far as I can see (I am sorry, writing elvish is something I am not really good in)
2004-09-22 [ilanyus]: I kinda figured out what the real problem is... I used the wrong kind of tengwar mode ... this is beleriand mode... I wanted to mention this and add the normal mode (as you probably noticed the vowels are separate letters in beleriand mode)
2004-09-22 [ilanyus]: there this one is better :P will look into beleriand mode asap
2004-09-22 [ilanyus]: haha come to think of it... learning how to pronunce sindarin would be easier just to watch LotR? heheh
2004-09-23 [LonelyTylenol]: Question: is the punctuation different in Quenya and Sindarin? Second question... Only, I don't remember what it is.
2004-09-23 [ilanyus]: there are some differences :) for example, the Sindarin 'period' is different (in Quenya you use sindarin colon for period)
2004-09-23 [LonelyTylenol]: That's what I thought.
2004-09-23 [Wirey]: thanx for signing me up Ilanyus! ^^
2004-09-24 [ilanyus]: no problem and good luck :)
2004-09-24 [LonelyTylenol]: Question: Do you have a scanner, Ilanyus?
2004-09-25 [ilanyus]: errr, I should :) but I don't know if it's working... do you want me to write things?
2004-09-25 [LonelyTylenol]: Well, no. I don't need it as of yet, I'm just thinking that eventually it will prove helpful... Just a thought.
2004-09-25 [ilanyus]: heheh, yeah it would prove helpfull, since not everything is quite as clear... and without seeing it might prove difficult... hmm... well I do have some texts I've transcribed (like Namárië :P) but those are all in Quenya :) not Sindarin... so I'll have to see what I will do, but it's a good idea!
2004-09-25 [ilanyus]: oh btw, if you're ready to procede to the next lesson, just edit the page and put something behind your name, like 'done' or something... think that will be the most effective way for me to know that I can start the next lesson
2004-09-25 [LonelyTylenol]: Well, I can right in some sindarin. And I do have a scanner, though it's hooked up to a computer I rarely use except for printing and scanning stuff. I may even be able to help with this first lesson a little because, like I said earlier, I do occassionally write notes to my friends in elvish. Actually, I only have one friend. Anyways, we use the English tongue but the elvish tengwar.
2004-09-25 [LonelyTylenol]: Yeah, the scanner might just help in explaining how to write it. But I already know and I don't know about your other student.
2004-09-26 [ilanyus]: yeah so I'll start making the next lesson :) to introduce some grammar :P this was just a little bit of introduction anyways huh :) I think it's best if you just write behind your name wether you are ready with the lesson or not :) makes it easier for me heheh
2004-10-01 [ilanyus]: wondering if anybody is alive around here? *pokes* I'll soon start lesson 2 I guess... but offcourse I will make another wiki for previous lessons
2004-10-02 [LonelyTylenol]: I am!
2004-10-03 [ilanyus]: haha, I have created the first version of lesson 2 :) will have to look it over again I think, but it's probably good this way heheh
2005-04-03 [Ninja Squirrel]: Awesome! I didn't know Sindarin was taught. I've been unsuccessfully trying to learn it for almost a year. Sign me up!
2005-04-03 [ilanyus]: btw... should I continue to the next lesson?
2005-04-03 [LonelyTylenol]: Well, I'm very not caught up... Well, I suppose I might be... Haven't really checked.
2005-04-06 [ilanyus]: w00t more students ;) welcome
